St. Augustine is the dominant lawn grass in Florida for good reason — a broad-bladed, shade-tolerant turf that thrives in our heat, humidity, and sandy soil. It's sold as sod: mature grass grown on a farm, cut into slabs, and stacked on pallets. One pallet of St. Augustine sod covers roughly 400–500 square feet (about 165–170 pieces), so the number of pallets you need comes straight off your square footage.
Not all Florida sod is the same. Floratam is the standard St. Augustine variety for full-sun SW Florida yards; Palmetto and Seville handle a bit more shade; and where St. Augustine won't thrive, Bahia and Zoysia are the other common types of sod in Florida. The right pick depends on your sun, soil, and how much water and mowing you want to commit to — we match the variety to your yard before a single pallet is ordered.

Mistake: Laying sod over a rough, un-leveled surface so the roots never make full contact
SW Florida's native sand actually makes a fine base for sod — but only when the surface is leveled precisely. Lay it over high and low spots and the sod bridges air gaps, scalps on the high points, and browns out in patches within the first month.
We don't pile topsoil on top of sand — that creates a layering problem that traps water and slows rooting. We level the native soil, roll the sod for full soil-to-soil contact, and hand you a watering schedule calibrated to fast-draining sand. That's what gets it rooted.

Factor 1
Square Footage & Lot Shape
Straightforward rectangular yards are most efficient to sod. Irregular shapes, curved beds, and tight areas around trees require more cuts, more time, and more material waste — all factored into the quote.

Old Turf Removal & Grading
If existing dead sod or weeds need to be stripped and hauled, that adds labor. Significant grading to correct drainage problems — very common in North Port's low-lying areas — adds time and sometimes fill material.

Dennis walks your yard, checks drainage patterns, evaluates sun exposure, and recommends the right sod variety. You get a written quote within 24–48 hours.
Step 2
Old Turf Strip & Haul
Existing damaged turf and weeds are stripped and hauled off-site. We don't sod over problems — we remove them.
Step 3
Grading & Soil Prep
Soil is graded for positive drainage, amended where needed, and pre-wetted. This step determines whether your sod roots well or struggles.
Step 4
Sod Installation
Fresh pallets arrive on project day. Sod is laid in staggered rows, pressed to full soil contact, cut at borders, and watered immediately.
