Landscape Renovation in Southwest Florida

SW Florida's growing season is aggressive — what looks manageable in February becomes a root-bound, overgrown tangle by July. A renovation done halfway means you're back in the same place next season. We clear it right, grade it right, and plant it right.

I've been doing this service in Southwest Florida long enough to know exactly where generic crews cut corners — and exactly what it costs homeowners six months later. Every job I take, I'm the one accountable if something's off.

The Basics

What a Landscape Renovation Involves in Southwest Florida

A landscape renovation tears out tired, overgrown, or storm-damaged plantings and rebuilds the yard the right way — removal and clearing, grading and drainage correction, then fresh planting, sod, and mulch. It's the reset for a yard that's been patched one problem at a time for years.

The renovation is also your one chance to fix what's underneath. Aggressive root systems, drainage problems hidden under old beds, and soil disrupted by hurricanes all surface once the old material is gone. We address those while the yard is open, so you're fixing it once instead of every season.

Local Knowledge

Three SW Florida Renovation Realities That Determine Whether You're Fixing This Once

Most landscape renovations fail to hold because the underlying problems weren't addressed — just covered up.

🌿

Sandy Soil Problem

Aggressive Root Systems

Tap to see what this means ↓

Mistake: Cutting back overgrown plants without removing root masses

SW Florida species like ficus, Brazilian pepper, and lantana have aggressive root systems that regenerate from stumps and root fragments left in the ground. Cutting them back without full removal means they're back in a season — often thicker.

We remove root masses where regrowth is the concern, not just surface vegetation. When full removal isn't practical, we advise on management practices that prevent rapid regrowth. The goal is a renovation that stays renovated.

🌧️

HOA Compliance

Drainage Exposed by Renovation

Tap to see what this means ↓

Mistake: Clearing and replanting without addressing drainage problems the old vegetation was masking

Overgrown plants sometimes mask low spots, poorly graded areas, and erosion channels that become obvious — and damaging — once they're removed. Installing new plants into the same poorly drained conditions that stressed the old ones produces the same outcome.

Every renovation project starts with a grade and drainage assessment. If we find drainage issues during clearing, we address them before new plants go in — not after they start failing.

🌀

FL Heat Factor

Hurricane Debris and Soil Disruption

Tap to see what this means ↓

Mistake: Replanting hurricane-damaged areas without regrading disrupted soil

Post-hurricane landscape renovations in SW Florida are a specialty of ours. Storms don't just damage plants — they leave compacted soil, debris ground into beds, and grade changes from fallen trees. Planting back into disrupted soil produces poor results.

We treat hurricane renovations as a full site reset — clear, assess, regrade where needed, amend the soil, then plant correctly. The properties we've renovated after Milton and Ian look better now than before the storms.

The Result

From overgrown to done right — a full landscape renovation that holds up through the Florida rainy season.

This is what the finished job looks like. No surprises, no shortcuts — just the work.

What Determines the Cost of a Landscape Renovation in SW Florida

Renovation quotes depend on the scope of removal, the drainage situation, and the replanting plan — here's what drives the number.

🌿

Factor 1

Volume & Type of Material Being Removed

Removing 10 overgrown shrubs with compact root balls is very different from clearing a quarter acre of invasive Brazilian pepper or removing a mature ficus hedge. Material volume and root complexity determine removal cost.

🏗️

Factor 2

Grading & Drainage Work Required

Many SW Florida renovation sites have drainage problems that became visible once the old plants came out. Addressing them before replanting adds cost — but is essential to prevent repeating the same failure cycle.

🌱

Factor 3

Replanting Scope & Plant Selection

A simple mulch refresh with ground cover is very different from a full plant installation with palms and specimen shrubs. Plant size and quantity are the biggest variables in the replanting phase of a renovation.

🚛

Factor 4

Debris Haul & Disposal

Everything removed has to go somewhere. Mulch, stumps, root masses, and old landscape rock all need haul-off. We include disposal in every renovation quote — no surprise dump fees after the job.

A renovation's cost depends on how much material is being removed, the grading and drainage work required, the replanting scope, and debris disposal. Every landscape renovation job is quoted individually — there's no flat rate, because no two SW Florida yards are the same. Dennis's Personal Guarantee

The Epic Horizons Renovation Guarantee

We clear it right, grade it right, and plant it right.

Complete removal: We don't trim and leave root masses behind. If a plant is designated for removal, it comes out — roots and all where regrowth is a concern.
Drainage addressed first: If clearing exposes a drainage problem, we identify it and address it before new plants go in. We won't plant into conditions set up to fail.
Dennis-backed follow-up: We return at 30 days to check establishment and address any issues. A renovation that fails to hold defeats the whole investment.

What Separates a Renovation That Holds From One That Needs Redoing in Two Years

Half-done renovations are the most common call we get in SW Florida. Here's what gets skipped.

The cheaper quote Epic Horizons
Plants cut back but root masses left — regrows faster than before within a season
Root masses removed where regrowth is a concern — complete removal, not cosmetic trim
Replanting over the same poorly drained soil that caused the previous plants to fail
Drainage assessed after clearing and corrected before any new plants go in
Debris buried or pushed to corners — creates pest habitat and nutrient depletion
All removed material hauled off-site — disposal included in every renovation scope
New plants installed at the same wrong depth as the old ones
Every new plant installed at correct depth relative to grade — mulch kept clear of crowns
No follow-up — if the renovation fails, you call someone else next time
30-day check-in and honest conversation about how the renovation is establishing
The fastest way to waste money on landscaping in SW Florida is to replant into the same conditions that killed the last plants. We fix the conditions first. Dennis, Owner — Epic Horizons Landscaping

Common Questions

Still Have Questions?

If you have more than 30% dead or severely overgrown material, persistent drainage issues, or recurring plant failures in the same areas, it's a renovation — not a refresh. Dennis will tell you honestly during a free site walk.
Yes — post-hurricane landscape renovation is a significant part of our work in SW Florida. We handle storm debris removal, soil restoration, grade correction from fallen trees, and full replanting. The properties we've renovated post-storm look better now than before it.
Most residential renovations take 3–7 days depending on the scope of removal, drainage work required, and replanting complexity. We give you a timeline with the quote so you can plan.
Everything comes out and gets hauled. We don't pile it at the curb or push it to the back corner. Disposal is included in every renovation quote — no surprise fees after the job.
Yes — and we recommend reviewing HOA requirements before renovation begins, not after. Many SW Florida communities have rules about visible bare dirt, plant replacement timelines, and approved species. We factor all of this into the renovation plan.
Yes — Brazilian pepper, air potato, Mexican petunia, and other invasive species are common renovation challenges in SW Florida. We remove them correctly, including root system treatment where needed, and recommend non-invasive replacements.
A renovation is priced individually because it depends on how much material is removed, the grading and drainage work needed, the replanting scope, and disposal. Our project gallery shows real finished renovations with their pricing, and we will build you a free written plan and quote for your yard.
If the underlying issues are drainage, grading, or aggressive roots, doing it in one pass is usually better — those problems are connected, and opening the yard once is cheaper than reopening it section by section. If it is purely cosmetic, phasing can work. We will tell you honestly which your yard needs.
