Irrigation in Placida, FL

Most Placida properties run on private well water, not municipal supply. A conventional sprinkler system designed for city water pressure will cavitate your pump and give you inconsistent coverage. Irrigation here has to be designed around your actual water source.

"Epic Horizons Landscaping did an awesome job transforming my yard!! They took out all the old sod and all the old plants. Put down new concrete edging for all of my flower beds. Planted 91 plants, 2 Christmas Palms and put in new landscape rock. Also cleaned up my drainage from rain gutters and had new irrigation installed. Reinstalled new Saint Augustine sod. It looks absolutely incredible! Dennis is extremely organized! He made sure everything went off without a hitch. I'm very impressed with how well run his organization is!! He took care of every detail from the time I first shook his hand until he finished the project. Thank you, Dennis for a job well done!!"

Local Expertise

A standard sprinkler system designed for city water pressure will underperform — or damage — a Placida well.

Most residential lots in Placida depend on private wells rather than municipal water. Wells in this area vary widely in pressure and flow rate — some have plenty of capacity for a conventional system, others are better suited to drip or micro-spray layouts that draw less volume per zone. A system designed without knowing your well's specs will run inconsistent coverage, create pressure drops that damage heads, or cycle the pump excessively. We ask about your water source before designing anything, and we build systems around what your well can actually deliver.

Irrigation work in Placida

Placida, FL

Downspout drain outlet installed at lawn edge

Location

Southwest Florida

Material / Scope

6 downspout drain connections, underground discharge runs, pop-up emitters

Total Area

6-downspout drainage system — full perimeter collection

Timeline

1 day

The property was pooling water at the foundation from six roof downspouts dumping directly onto the lawn. We connected all six downspouts to underground drain lines with pop-up emitters at the lawn perimeter — moving the discharge away from the house and spreading it over a larger area. Straightforward install, significant difference during heavy rain events.

Result: Foundation area staying dry through rainy season; no more pooling observed at the house perimeter.
French drain trench with perforated pipe before gravel backfill

Location

Southwest Florida

Material / Scope

Perforated drain pipe, gravel, filter fabric, solid downspout run, swale outlet

Total Area

35-ft French drain + downspout run + swale pipe

Timeline

1 day

Water was collecting in a low area of the backyard after every storm. We installed a 35-ft French drain through the problem area, added a downspout tie-in from the rear gutter, and ran a solid pipe to the swale at the rear property line.

Result: Low area drained and dry within 24 hours of a heavy storm; no further pooling reported.
Completed lanai landscape with rock beds and border curbing

Location

Southwest Florida

Material / Scope

664 sq ft weed barrier, 6 cu yd decorative rock, 50 ft concrete curbing, tropical plants, irrigation line reroute

Total Area

664 sq ft weed mat, 6 cu yd rock, 50 ft curbing, plants, irrigation reroute

Timeline

2 days

Full lanai rock bed build with irrigation reroute. The existing irrigation lines ran through the footprint of the new beds, so we rerouted the heads and drip lines to match the new bed layout before the rock went in. Getting irrigation right before the rock covers everything is the only way to do it correctly.

Result: Lanai beds completed and irrigation confirmed operational through all zones before project closeout.
Completed landscaping with rock beds, palms, and concrete curbing

Location

Southwest Florida

Material / Scope

4 pallets sod, 742 sq ft weed mat, 7 cu yd black slate, 90 ft curbing, Christmas palms, agave, downspout drain system

Total Area

Full property build — 4 pallets sod, 90 ft curbing, rock beds, downspout drain, Christmas palms, agave

Timeline

3 days

Full property landscape and drainage build. Downspout drainage was part of the scope — the existing downspouts were discharging at the foundation and the new sod install required the drainage problem be solved first. We ran the downspout lines underground before laying sod, then completed the full build.

Result: Full establishment on all plant material; drainage running correctly and foundation dry through rainy season.

How We Work

Irrigation in Placida: What Actually Happens

I've done this job in Placida enough times to know what catches people off guard. Here's what actually matters — and what's specific to this area.

Step 01

Zone Design + Well Assessment + Head Layout

Dennis surveys the property, assesses your water source (well pressure and flow rate or municipal), maps sun/shade zones, and designs the system — zones, head types, spacing, and mainline routing. Smart controller placement and power source are confirmed. The full layout is reviewed with you before a trench is cut.

⏱ Before work begins

Placida: Placida well water varies — we ask about your pump specs before finalizing the zone layout so we're not designing a system that exceeds your well's sustainable output or creates pressure drop across zones.

Step 02

Trenching + Pipe Runs

Trenches are cut to the correct depth — typically 6–8 inches for lateral lines. Mainline and lateral pipes are run and connected. Sleeves are installed under driveways and walkways. All irrigation lines are flagged above utility lines at crossings.

⏱ Day 1–2

Placida: Placida's coastal sand is easy to trench but doesn't hold pipe depth well under root pressure from mature palms and coastal vegetation — we bed the pipe in compacted sand backfill to maintain depth over time.

Step 03

Head Installation + Valve + Mainline Connections

Spray heads, rotor heads, or drip emitters are installed at design positions. Valves are set in valve boxes at grade. Backflow preventer is installed and positioned per code. All connections are pressure-tested before backfill.

⏱ Day 2–3

Placida: In Placida's salt environment, we use UV and corrosion-resistant fittings and valve box materials — standard products used inland degrade faster when exposed to coastal air.

Step 04

Controller Programming + Zone Calibration

Smart controller is wired, connected to rain sensor, and programmed per Charlotte County restriction schedule. Each zone is run and heads are adjusted for optimal coverage and throw. Any gaps or overlaps are corrected. Run times are finalized and left on record.

⏱ Final day

Placida: We walk you through the controller app before we leave — and for well-water properties, we explain how to monitor for pressure drop symptoms that indicate the system is outrunning the well's recovery rate.

From Dennis P. — Owner, Epic Horizons

"Well water irrigation is a different design challenge than city supply. I've done enough of these in the Cape Haze and Placida area to know what well systems can handle and what makes them fail. The design comes first."

Placida's coastal conditions and well water prevalence change how Irrigation is done here. The water source, the salt air, and Charlotte County's restriction schedule are the actual job — not generic considerations. Every estimate I give factors these in from the start.

What Affects the Price in Placida

Placida has specific conditions that change what a Irrigation project costs here. Here's what goes into your number.

🔢

Number of zones

Each zone is a separate cost line

Zones are determined by the size and layout of your property and the different plant types being watered. Most residential Placida lots need 4–8 zones. More zones = more heads, pipe, and controller ports.

🔧

New install vs. repair

Complete new systems cost more than repairs

A complete new install includes trenching, pipe, all heads, valve box, and controller. Repair work — broken heads, failed valves, leak detection — is priced by the specific issue found.

📱

System type

Drip vs. micro-spray vs. conventional — different costs

Drip systems use less water per zone and are well-suited to Placida's low-pressure wells and plant beds. Micro-spray fills the middle ground for lawns and mixed beds. Conventional rotors and spray heads are available where well pressure supports them. We design the right mix for your property.

📊

Existing system condition

Old systems sometimes need more than a tune-up

Older Placida irrigation systems sometimes have components that have degraded in the salt air environment. If the underlying infrastructure is failing, a full replacement may cost less over time than patching repeatedly.

Questions & Answers

Irrigation in Placida — Common Questions

Answer Yes. Charlotte County enforces irrigation restrictions — residential properties are generally limited to specific watering days based on their address. We program your controller to your exact allowed schedule on install day so you're compliant from the start.
Answer Yes, and most Placida properties do. The key is designing the system around your well's actual flow rate and pressure. We assess well specs before finalizing any design — a system that demands more water per cycle than your well can deliver will cause pressure drops, inconsistent head coverage, and pump wear.
Answer Drip and micro-spray systems are typically the best fit for Placida well-water properties because they draw significantly less volume per zone than conventional spray or rotor systems. For properties with strong well pressure and flow, conventional systems can work well too. We design based on what your water source can actually support.
Answer Most residential lots in Placida need 4–8 zones depending on size and layout. Lawn areas and plant beds should always be on separate zones — they have different water needs. With well water, zone count also needs to be balanced against what your pump can handle simultaneously.
Answer Florida law requires a rain sensor on all new irrigation system installations. Given that Placida gets around 55 inches of rain annually, a properly functioning rain sensor also saves meaningful draw on your well by preventing the system from running during and immediately after rain events.
